Plants are funny and fickle things but some are easier to care for than others. We have picked the plants that need the least maintenance and frankly, are pretty much impossible to kill. But wait, don’t be fooled into thinking low maintenance is boring though – we have hand-selected these plants for their attractiveness and usefulness, too. This guide will arm you with all the information you need for these 5 happy growers as well as helpful tips and products along the way.

Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)

This plant is native to the warm and exotic climates of West Africa, making it not-so-good for growing in British gardens but it’ll thrive as a houseplant. You will be hard-pressed to find a plant as eye-catching and easy to care for as the Mother-in-Law’s tongue. It gets its unusual name from its pointed and sharp upright foliage that is often two-tone with a darker green centre and a light green edge (yep, just like your…). It is a surprisingly easy grower and is happy in both low light and full light conditions. Like many warm climate plants, it’s not a heavy drinker and doesn’t need to be watered too often. It is a fast grower too, making it a snazzy housewarming gift. Hint hint. Get your hands on one now.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has been used since ancient times for its soothing, calming and healing properties. When it comes to useful small house plants, the Aloe is the best of the best because it’s so low maintenance. It is the perfect addition for your kitchen windowsill. It's incredibly water efficient, looks great, and can come in useful for at-home remedies.

Devil’s Ivy (Epipremnum aureum)

If you’re curious about our trailing plants selection, then Devil’s Ivy (also known as Rapunzel!) is a Prickle favourite. Devil’s Ivy is a shade tolerant plant and grows without fuss in most light conditions. Perhaps even more interesting is that unlike other trailing plants and ivies, Devil’s Ivy doesn’t need much watering (so don’t panic if you always forget). Another excellent trait is that this ivy is very easy to cut back into shape if needed and with some trimming you can keep it to your liking. It's also pretty qualified to purify the air in your home.
The ZZ Plant
The ZZ Plant is native to Africa and prefers a cosy warm environment and caring for it is as eazy peazy. This slow grower adjusts well to most light conditions but is happiest in indirect light. Oh and bonus, they don’t need much watering at all – put the ZZ on a 2-drink-a-month limit, and they’ll be happy. For pruning, just remove or cut back any yellow leaves every now and then.

Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa)

Delicious by name (but not actually edible) the Swiss Cheese Plant is Prickle's favourite house plant. This large open-leaved evergreen can grow to quite extraordinary sizes (although you’ll need patience, as it takes decades). Give this Swiss plenty of room – an adult can be as tall as 8 metres with a spread of 2.5 metres. They’re easy to grow and easy to care for, sitting happily in partial shade environments and not needing much in the way of pruning. They are probably the thirstiest plant to make our list though. • For plants that are fussy when it comes to water, you can use our misters to give them a little hydration without worrying about over-watering them.
